Opis
Pheromone traps are an effective solution that allows precise monitoring of box tree moth activity throughout the growing season. Using them requires no chemicals, which makes them an ideal choice for ecological gardeners who care about the natural environment in their garden. The Panko box tree moth trap will let you control the presence of this pest safely and effectively, without risk to ornamental plants, pets and natural pollinators, which are essential for maintaining biological balance.
The ideal way to detect the presence of the box tree moth is to hang up our pheromone trap for catching adult moths. The traps mainly serve to signal the presence of the pest (they attract males only). By hanging a larger number of traps in the garden near box shrubs, we can significantly reduce moth numbers. By eliminating males with pheromone traps, we ensure that not all eggs are fertilised, so fewer caterpillars hatch. Hanging up traps is an effective way to spot the pest early enough.
Regular use of pheromone traps also makes it possible to predict peaks in box tree moth activity. Thanks to this, you can plan protective measures before the larvae become a serious threat to the plants – from natural barriers and repellents to chemical protection. By installing the traps at the right height and at the right distance from box shrubs, you effectively limit the possibility of larvae developing, which helps keep your box plants healthy, green and beautiful all year round.
The offer covers a set of 3 pheromone inserts for the box tree moth trap.
The trap itself can be purchased here >>
It is best to install the trap in a shaded place. The special construction of the trap prevents the lured insects from escaping.
Signs of box tree moth feeding - are chewed leaf edges and later whole leaves of the box shrubs. As a result, the plant may even be completely stripped of leaves, which leads to its death. Sometimes individual shoots dry out, and in the case of a heavy infestation entire box hedges are lost.
Appearance - adult moths may have white wings with a brown border or light brown wings with a purple sheen and a white crescent-shaped spot. Wingspan up to 4 cm. Adults may fly from April to September, and in warm weather even until October. Females lay eggs on the underside of box leaves, in the middle part of the shrub's crown. It is the larvae that are harmful to box – green caterpillars up to 4 cm long with lengthwise dark stripes. Young caterpillars chew the edges of leaves, while older ones eat whole leaves.
- the trap is SAFE for BIRDS AND POLLINATORS
- the trap should be hung on tree branches (no less than 50 cm from the tree trunk and 2–3 m from the nearest box trees/shrubs)
- optimally, 1 trap protects 16 m² of monitored area
- installation height 2–2.5 m above the ground.
How to increase the effectiveness of pheromone traps?
For the pheromone trap for box tree moths to work even more effectively, it is worth using a few additional strategies. Correct placement is essential – by putting them in different parts of the garden, you increase the chance of catching more males, which directly reduces the pest population. The best results are achieved by hanging the traps at a height of about 1.5–2 metres, in places sheltered from strong wind.
It is also worth combining pheromone traps with other methods of protecting box plants, e.g. removing caterpillars by hand, using natural biological preparations or encouraging birds to visit the garden – tits are happy to hunt box tree moth larvae. Our range also includes other products for catching other orchard pests, e.g. traps for the horse chestnut leaf miner, which allows you to achieve comprehensive protection.
