Opis
panko® LA-TRAP is a multi-layer sticky trap of the Cover trapTM type, designed for monitoring the presence of horse chestnut leaf miner moths Cameraria ohridella. The pheromone placed in the glue effectively attracts the male insects, which are then held on the adhesive surfaces. The trap is safe for pollinators, birds and most insects that are active during the day. It is resistant to sunlight and to difficult weather conditions such as rain. The special construction of the trap prevents it from being contaminated by leaves. A single trap catches from 8,000 to 10,000 insects.
The traps should be placed at the end of March or the beginning of April on the lower parts of the trees, at a height of 2–2.5 m. Thanks to its suitable construction and adequate adhesive surface, the trap does not have to be replaced during the season. The traps should nevertheless be checked, because in extreme cases they may fill up with insects before the season ends, in which case the trap should be replaced with a new one.
The traps should remain on the trees until the end of September. Two traps should be placed on a medium-sized tree. For a group of trees growing close to one another (less than 150 m apart), it is strongly recommended to place traps on all of the trees. Our own research (quoted after PESTEKO Jarosław Pawłowicz)has shown an average insect flight range of up to approx. 150 m from infected trees.
CAUTION! Protecting horse chestnut trees requires combining and simultaneously applying several methods that disrupt the development cycle of the horse chestnut leaf miner. The absolute priority is removing fallen leaves from under the trees in autumn, as they are a reservoir of insect larvae. By using monitoring traps we make use of their most important asset, namely the high sensitivity needed for effective insect detection.
In the case of the LA-TRAP, an additional advantage is the large, suitably shaped adhesive surface. Using the panko® pheromone trap makes it possible to assess the level of infestation correctly, while the males caught during monitoring reduce the population, especially at the early stage of its development, preventing the fertilisation of female leaf miners.
Effective protection of horse chestnut trees against the horse chestnut leaf miner
The horse chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) is one of the most serious threats to horse chestnut trees in Europe. Its larvae feed inside the leaves, causing them to yellow and fall prematurely and weakening the whole plant. In extreme cases this can even lead to the death of the tree. Pheromone trap for the leaf miner LA-TRAP is an advanced monitoring tool.
One of the key advantages of the LA-TRAP is its high sticky capacity. Thanks to this, in most cases a single application is enough for the whole season. Only in situations of extremely high leaf miner populations may it be necessary to replace the trap with a new one. Regular checks make it possible to determine whether the adhesive surface is still sufficiently effective.
Strategic placement of the traps
For the best results, the traps LA-TRAP should be placed on the lower parts of the trees, at a height of 2–2.5 m. The flight range of the leaf miner is on average 150 m, which means that effective protection requires covering larger areas. For individual medium-sized horse chestnut trees, a minimum of two traps per tree is recommended, whereas in clusters of trees growing less than 150 metres apart, traps should be placed on all of the trees.
Safety and an ecological approach
The trap panko® LA-TRAP contains no insecticides or other chemical substances, which makes it safe for pollinators, birds and most insects active during the day. It can be used in city parks, tree-lined avenues and home gardens.
Thanks to a 24-month shelf life, the traps can be stored for the following season, which makes them an economical, long-term solution in the fight against the leaf miner. Regular use of the LA-TRAP helps keep horse chestnut trees healthy, improving their condition and appearance – and our range also includes traps for box tree moths, fruit moths and aphids, so you can effectively look after the condition of your whole orchard.
Shelf life: 24 months.
Contains no insecticides or other harmful chemical substances. Used traps should be treated as municipal waste.
